Advanced Placement (AP) & Honors Courses

• AP®courses are college-level courses offered in high school
• Courses reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses
• Students take AP Exams at the end of the course, measuring their mastery of collegelevel work
• A score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college 

AP Courses are excellent for students who want a challenge in a particular subject area. These classes assist students in building a high-school resume that attracts colleges - AP classes prove to admissions officers that you are serious about learning. These classes not only allow students to earn college credit (for free) while still in high school and create a compelling resume, they also provide an academic challenge that insures readiness to excel at the college level.

• AP courses are interesting and rewarding academic experiences 
• Opportunity to earn valuable credit and placement in college

When students earn college credit through AP Exams, their options and opportunities expand: 

• Move to upper-level college courses sooner
• Pursue a double major 
• Gain time to study and travel abroad

AP Exams are administered by schools worldwide on set dates in May each year.  Exams are typically 2–3 hours and include:

• Multiple-choice questions 
• Free-response items such as essays, problem solving, document-based questions and oral response 

The exam fee is covered by Guilford County Schools, however, please note:  Students who fail to attend the AP Exam will be charged a $15.00 no show fee.
